Turn lamp

Caroline Olsson is a talented Norwegian designer. She has a fantastic understanding of wood and keeps her designs quite simple, inspired by geometrical shapes.

The turn lamp series, from the new Bolia collection, is designed by Caroline Olsson. We love them because they are beautiful, playful and intuitive. I have spoken with Caroline about the Turn series and here is her story.

Workbenches that often where used in wood workshops, inspired to create the Turn lamp. The series was created because she wanted to show tree thread technique in a new way and to preserve and commemorate an old craft tradition. The lamp should encourage interaction between user and product. The user must touch the lamp to turn the light on and off. The switch is placed very visibly on the lamps so it becomes a focus point and easy to reach. The size of the switch is chosen to be relatively large so that it is a natural part of the lamp. Also the threads provide a mechanical expression, referring to the possibility of movement. The lamp is wood turned in oak and perceived as soft and pleasant when touched. You can switch the light on or off by turning the tightening mechanism. Turn lamp Turn lamp
